I’m going to give my thoughts on the new doctor… because everyone is dying to hear my opinion, right?
Okay, so for those unaware, the new Doctor has been confirmed, and will be played by Jodie Whittaker, making his the first female ro ever play the doctor… unless you somehow count the parody written by Stephen Moffat for Comic Relief 1999.
Personally, I’m not sure how I feel about the choice of the new Doctor…
If it was from her being the best of the all of the potential candidates in audition, and her competition consisted of a bunch of actors of all genders, ages and races, then I’d say fair enough, she would have been picked for her acting ability, not on the fact the she has a ueterus.
If, however, she is only chosen because they were specifically looking for a female, because feminism, then I’d be pissed off.
… and of course, as it turns out, it’s the latter… The BBC article I read about it
quotes “By Lizo Mzimba, BBC entertainment correspondent:
It was always unlikely that the Doctor would continue to be white and male, especially as the BBC has committed itself to greater diversity on its programmes.”
For fuck sake. Gender diversity can be great, don’t get me wrong, but don’t! Fucking! Force it!
I understand that the doctor can be any gender or race, there’s nothing to say that they have to be a while male, that’s fair enough, which is why I feel that they should be open towards who they pick, give a bunch of people of varying genders and races, and just judge who you’d think would make for the best doctor to follow up the current one.
If you want true equality between all genders and race, you need to stop prioritising a specific race or gender, and that includes non cis-males, and non-whites… practice what you
fucking preach! Two wrongs don’t make a right!
Never give a fuck what skin colour or private parts one has! Judge people only on their ability to do the job, and their previous records!
If your character is was written from the ground up to be a female, a black person, or a female black person, then I’d say fair enough, same goes for if a character was made to be a white male, you intend for them to be that particular race or sex, the actor should reflect that!
Otherwise, don’t pick or discriminate someone based solely on those reasons! If you do, you’re just as bad as those you claim to fight!
So in conclusion, I’m not mad because the doctor is going to be female, I’m mad at why the doctor is going be female!
For that reason, I’m going to stop watching Docxtor Who. I was thinking of getting back into it, but this has just put me off.
If you want to make strong female leads, create new characters! New Stories! It’s not that difficult!
Anyway, rant over.
