On Saturday, I was going to play some Tony Hawk’s Underground, but we didn’t…

I got back into THUG Pro, and this time, I’ve started trying to diversify my combos, and use every special move I have!

On Sunday, I set the PS2 back up for my brother, who decided to play through Tony Hawk’s Underground multiple times to unlock all of the decks. He isn’t too happy about having to do it, but he’s doing it anyway, he’s dedicated, I’ll give him that!

On Monday, my brother started to create his story on Tony Hawk’s Underground and I played some Shaun Palmer’s Pro Snowboarder… which is kind of meh…

On Tuesday, A tried my hand at modding THUG Pro and adding my own models, A tried adding the Klonoa model, I followed this tutorial on how to rig models.

It turned into a disaster. I got the model imported in the game, but the rigging (meaning how the character moves in animation) was way off, and was very glitchy, and I couldn’t to save my life fix it.

I gave up and just imported my created Klonoa skater from THUG2 into THUG Pro, and that worked.

A few people have recognised the character, surprisingly, I didn’t expect anyone to, the Klonoa games are pretty rare, and kind of came and went, so that’s cool!

My Brother came in telling me his plans for the THUG story, and plans to create braching storylines, some of which rely on which sponsor you pick in the story, that souinds really cool. That’s something the actuial story mode doesn’t have

So on Wednesday, I’ve been playing around in THUG Pro online matches, and people have started to notice, and point out that my combos are reptitive, something I didn’t even realise.

It made me so embarassed that I haven’t played an online game since…

On Saturday, my brother, my sister and I played a Catchphrase card game my sister bought a day or so prior.

It’s a 3+ player game, one player is the host and the rest play against each-other.

My sister was the host so it was me vs my brother.

It was fun, though we struggled a lot with a couple of the catchphrases.

This is why I’m losing interest in video games…

It’s things that this that really tick me off!

I believe it’s the consumers right to mod what they buy. As long as they don’t resell it. (Even then, I’d say a very limited number of copies is still okay)

However, that would be me caring for the consumers, and proposing that I don’t have control over something, and that is unacceptable in the industry!

I think they’re going to singlehandedly kill off the entire PC community by doing this, maybe not immediately, but in the long run, like any other games, people will lost interest.

but that’s okay with the, because that would mean they’d have interest in forking over money for a new game!

How long have Take Two sunken from making mods acceptable in San Andreas, to outright outlawing them entirely in GTA V!

“Is it because of the Hot Cofee Incident?”, I have my doubts, because 1: That was over 10 years ago, and 2: Hot Cofee, with Rockstar’s fault, they added it then, but then hid it, modder simply uncovered it…

From the point of view from an indie developer, I love the idea of modding. The lifespan of my original Rossies game was extended thanks to it being open source, and other people making mods and even total conversions of the game! I was seeing new content based on something I created it. I planted the seed to a then-growing community!

It’s that that makes me commited to make all my games open source, communities are a good thing! Maybe not finantially, but… well, fananical is all that matters to corporations, I forgot.

So my closeing words are: Fuck you Take Two!

Retro Diary #70

Last Sunday, I got Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 (mostly) working on my PC, and I got it working using the Cumulative patch, which makes the gtame widescreen, unloicks the framerate, and makes other improvements.

….and wow! Playing the game at 60+ frames per second makes a huge difference! It’s much more fun and fluid now! It’s going to be hard to go back to the console versions now…

This article is a hard read, it’s sad to know that VHS tapes, something that is a big part of many lives, won’t be usable any more after a couple of decades.

Though on the bright side, the article mentions that digital doesn’t last forever, either. As someone who hates digital, that made me happy.

Though it means that we need a format for preserving things. I hope we find it.

Interestingly enough, the article states that film is a more preservable format than tape or digital… I always thought film and tape were one and the same… I guess you learn something new every day.

“N64 isn’t dead yet! THPS 3 is coming out”

I stumbled across something midly interesting.

This is an old thread on IGN forums from 2002 discussing the announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 on the Nintendo 64, which would then turn out to be the final game on that console!

I feel like an architect discovering ancient ruins or like I stepped into a time machine!

This is amazing! It’s interesting to see how people thought about it when they came out.

The majority of people were saying that it was just a rumour, and that it would never happen, other have said it never came out.

Well, it did come out, but only in the US, and had a limited release. According to Guiness Book of Records Gamer’s Edition in 2008, it only had a release of 300-400 copies, another source says 500, and VG-Charts says it only had 80,000. So I don’t know what the exact figure is, but it isn’t much, that’s for sure.

I’ve also learned from this that a Powerpuff Girls game was the 2nd last to be released for the console, and this is a very good source, since it’s primary and from the time.

The situation with the console at this time, according to this forum, was that stores stopped selling N64 games, and one person on the forums had trouble finding the send game when that came out, and for the most part, N64 games were only available online!

I learned a heck of a lot from this, and I haven’t even finished reading it!
