My (Quick) thoughts on the STV Scotland Referendum Live Debate

Thursday, August 7th, 2014

DISCLAIMER: I am aware that this isn’t the usual kind of stuff I would post here, but I feel that this topic was too important not to discuss, however, if you feel that this is too off topic for your liking, then feel free to disregard.

I usually don’t like talking about personal events in real life, but I feel youse must know about this, but I had an operation on my back, and it really hurts to sit down, so I’m making this article brief.

So the big debate has passed, Alex Salmond and Alister Darling have had their prep talk, trained for months for the big fight! They entered the octagon, weapons at hands, and fought to the death in an orgy of blood and gore!

…Oh wait, that wasn’t what happened, was it? My memory has really been starting to play tricks on me…

Unless you haven’t read my article from 2 years ago (which is probably most of youse) and don’t know me in real life, then you’ll know that I am a Yes voter, and support independence. However, I’m trying my beast not to be biased towards Salmond, though to be honest, I don’t think it’ll be too hard.

Long story short, Salmond talked about making Scotland a fairer society, and Darling kept going on with the pound. Salmond made a bad move not discussing the pound, he has backup plans for the case, which is written on his White Paper, published a year or so ago. It was frustrating seeing him dodge the question, I am not going to lie, but apparently, he had a reason for it, and that was to get Darling angry and to expose Project Fear, and if that was the case, good on you Salmond! If it isn’t, shame on you Salmond! However, I will admit this, the points Alex Salmond were making are arguably not as big as the debate about the pound, but I don’t think they should be ignored.

The thing that annoys me more than the screw up itself, was the media reporting it, they were reporting it as the only thing that came out of the debate, when in actuality, that was the only thing Salmond dodged, Darling dodged every question tat came his way! Including a question that regarded him saying the pound “would work” in an independent Scotland, and that he was now campaigning against it. I’m not surprised the media is siding with Darling, seeing as they’re all in line to sleep with Westminster…

Well those are my thoughts, I told you they were quick! Well, you can blame my operation! I overall believe it’s Stalemate, neither side won I think, one dodged a major question, and the other dodged several minor ones… What do youse think?

Actually, I have some thoughts on the First Minister’s Questions that followed 2 days later, where Alex Salmond actually mentions his other plans in regard to currency… multiple times, it seems the whole time, Joan Lamont and Ruth Davidson had their fingers in their ears every time he mentioned them, as they kept saying, even after Alex said his backup plans, that he hasn’t mentioned is Plan B… Words cannot describe my reason to tha- No, wait! I have 2: “In Denial!”. I think that sums it all up. Don’t believe me? Watch it yourself, I provided a link above!

At the end of the day though, does currency really matter? To me, it doesn’t matter what symbol accompanies the numbers, or the kind or size of the coins and notes used, I only care about whose pockets they will be in, and I believe only through Independence, we can guarantee it will all be going to the pocket of those in Scotland! You just need to look at the behaviours of the campaigners to realise who’s telling the truth and who’s lying! I am not here to dictate what you should vote, but I’m just saying, think twice before voting No… Great, I’ve just alienated half of my already small reader-base, haven’t I… ?
